Cowbridge council’s coronavirus response
Sunday, 29 March 2020
Cowbridge with Llanblethian Town Council has taken a number of measures as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
• All bookings for the Town Hall have been postponed until further notice.
• The Mayor’s Ball has been postponed for the time being.
• The Citizen of the Year Awards on May 1 will not now take place until later in the year.
• VE75 celebrations on May 8 will be postponed and it is hoped will be amalgamated with the Battle of Britain 80th anniversary celebrations in September.
• A new Mayor will be voted in in May, but there will be no ceremony to mark the occasion. Civic Sunday will take place when appropriate.
The Town Clerk will try to assist with any queries via the telephone and email between the hours of 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. The office will be open to visitors between 9am and 1pm on those days, but visitors will be required to observe the instructions posted in the lobby in order to minimise close contact.
The office of the Town Council will do its best to work with and support any activities and initiatives directed by relevant authorities, and will only act in accordance with directives from the UK or Welsh Government, the NHS, the Vale of Glamorgan Council and emergency services.
The Town Hall office will act as a conduit for information and requests for help. It should be noted that many areas have already set up their own networks for their immediate neighbours.
The Town Council suggests that residents should take their news from respected outlets which generally include local and national television and radio. Specific instructions about behaviours, actions and activities will be released by the relevant authorities when needed and we urge the community to treat other messages with caution.
The Town Council will publish updates relevant to its services on a regular basis.
On behalf of the Town Council I urge people to try and remain calm, support local businesses where you can, avoid panic buying and look out for your elderly neighbours and the more vulnerable members of the community.
Cllr Alec Trousdell
Mayor of Cowbridge with Llanblethian
